A book is a moment in time. As we learn more about readÂerâs quesÂtions, or disÂcovÂer any errors, weâll share updates through this list.
Itâs imporÂtant that readÂers can reach me directÂly, share their quesÂtions, and that I have a way to share updates and clarÂiÂfiÂcaÂtions about the book. I hope that if you have quesÂtions, you share them. Of course, no spam. Also easÂiÂly unsubÂscribe at any time from a link directÂly in the footÂer of any update.

The founÂdaÂtion for the Elephantâs Paycheck Blueprint are the set of stocks who conÂsisÂtentÂly raise their divÂiÂdends. The divÂiÂdend arisÂtoÂcrat page conÂtains useÂful inforÂmaÂtion for readÂers, includÂing links to the list of divÂiÂdend arisÂtoÂcrats as well as inforÂmaÂtion for interÂnaÂtionÂal investors.
Sample Portfolio
When I startÂed writÂing, I startÂed trackÂing a samÂple portÂfoÂlio. Itâs a Google sheet that anyÂone can visÂit or copy to track their own portÂfoÂlio. In addiÂtion to linkÂing to the sheet, readÂers can downÂload workÂsheets and read more about how to use the portÂfoÂlio trackÂer on the samÂple portÂfoÂlio landÂing page.
Worksheets
I creÂatÂed a couÂple of workÂsheets that are used in Part Four of the book to help peoÂple learn-more-about and comÂpare comÂpaÂnies.
Chapter-by-Chapter Extras & Clarifications
Part 1 â Elephantâs Paycheck Raises as Compared to Inflation
As I menÂtioned earÂliÂer in this secÂtion of the book (footÂnote #2), writÂing about monÂey is hard. Sometimes it requires some basic assumpÂtions to prove a point genÂerÂalÂly, rather than exact specifics.
I took this quote as relÂeÂvant:
Adjusting for tickÂet price inflaÂtion is not an exact sciÂence and should be used to give you a genÂerÂal idea of what a movie might have made if released in a difÂferÂent year, assumÂing it sold the same numÂber of tickÂets.
The movie tickÂet price data that I used to demonÂstrate inflaÂtion should in real-detailed writÂing disÂcuss whether the price increase is actuÂalÂly a result of inflaÂtion or of someÂthing else.
The point stands, that prices go up over time. If your payÂcheck doesÂnât, youâre falling behind. How much youâre falling behind, or how fast, may be an interÂestÂing conÂverÂsaÂtion. But the point still holds. Youâre Falling behind.
That said, I used inflaÂtion data about movie tickÂet prices that is easÂiÂly found online. Look at the botÂtom, where the list of movie prices and inflaÂtion adjustÂed prices is preÂsentÂed. At the time of writÂing, the data only goes through 2012, so I wrote in the book that by 2013 the price was $7.92. I thought that was a fair way to make my point.
If youâd like to explore the effects of inflaÂtion over time have a look at this inflaÂtion calÂcuÂlaÂtor.
Part 2 â Dividend Reinvestment Plans
Here are some speÂcifÂic comÂpaÂnies that offer direct divÂiÂdend reinÂvestÂment plans and links to the pages describÂing the plans. These arenât investÂment recÂomÂmenÂdaÂtions, just examÂples:
Notice the botÂtom right corÂner of the P&> shareÂholdÂer relaÂtions site (the orange box). You can click on the prospecÂtus to read it and see how the plan works. You can click to open and account and invest on the spot.
The page weâre showÂing here is http://www.pginvestor.com/Shareholder-Relations/Index?keyGenPage=326397 (or click on the image).
The origÂiÂnal URL for P&> investors is http://www.pginvestor.com. Heading here, you see a green box front-and-cenÂter that says âIndividual Investor Informationâ.
If you head to the botÂtom of Caterpillarâs investor page, youâll see someÂthing called shareÂholdÂer serÂvices (image above). Shareholder serÂvices takes you to a page where you can find out inforÂmaÂtion about the direct stock purÂchase plan (3rd from left). Of course, Iâm proÂvidÂing a link straight to it but tryÂing to help you know how to find it on your own.
Part 4 â Investor Home Pages
Itâs so much easÂiÂer to show this stuff off in video, or in perÂson. I use three examÂples, for no othÂer reaÂson than Iâm familÂiar with these three.
Each of these pages show how much inforÂmaÂtion you can learn about a comÂpaÂny directÂly from its investor page. No need to have âspeÂcial researchâ or âinside accessâ.
P&>. You can see right front and cenÂter on the P&> investor page is the numÂber of conÂsecÂuÂtive divÂiÂdend increasÂes â 60 at the moment! Also front and cenÂter is a link for indiÂvidÂual investors to get startÂed buyÂing stock directÂly. Of course, P&> proÂvides this proÂgram through an investÂment manÂageÂment comÂpaÂny. But, itâs effecÂtiveÂly buyÂing directÂly from the comÂpaÂny.
Caterpillar. Caterpillar is a fun comÂpaÂny for small kids â they love the conÂstrucÂtion equipÂment. Down at the botÂtom right of the main investor page you can find out inforÂmaÂtion about their âdirect stock purÂchase planâ. I didÂnât link straight through, as I think itâs interÂestÂing to see how much eduÂcaÂtionÂal inforÂmaÂtion and access we have through investor sites directÂly, includÂing direct purÂchasÂes.
GE. GE does a realÂly great job comÂmuÂniÂcatÂing with investors. I sugÂgest you sign up for their investor email newsletÂter at the top of the investor page. GE highÂlights some of the forÂmal filÂings at the top â the CEO letÂter and the 10âK. Again, clickÂing through will give you some realÂly easy to conÂsume inforÂmaÂtion in mulÂti-media forÂmat to help you underÂstand GEâs stratÂeÂgy and results.
