I love everything about Spend Stack… especially the backstory. If I ever do build my Elephant’s Paycheck app, I fantasize that I’d have a similar story and approach.
Spend Stack is an app you can use with family members to track lists of things where you care about the total cost — a shopping list, a budget for a birthday party, or the execution of chores towards a savings goal.
I’m excited about Spend Stack because it sits squarely at the intersection of my top interests: technology, personal finance, and craftsmanship.
Jordan, the developer, talks about working on the app for five years. Adapting it as they used it. Deeply understanding their own habits, and the way iOS works. Amazing.
Just look at the result. It’s beautiful. Look at the way he uses shared lists for collaboration; at the specificity of how he deals with taxes and discounts on purchases. Hear how excited he is as shown by how he couldn’t help but talk to his friends about it… and of course take their feedback and make it better.
Finally, look at how proud he talks about the various features that show his attention to details. The ability to undo transactions, the ability to use iCloud to share lists, and more.
I’ve got some ideas just reading the Spend Stack backstory and hearing stories like Jordan’s is hugely motivating.
